Yes, Prime Minister
By Sir Anthony Jay and Jonathan Lynn
Directed By James Calvert

10 Feb. 12 - 19 Feb. 12

Book Now Performance Mellow Drama Malta

One of the most successful theatrical productions of 2011 is coming to the Maltese stage in February – the hilarious comedy Yes, Prime Minister.

Based on the classic BBC television sitcom, the stage version has been written by the same authors, Anthony Jay and Jonathan Lynn, and has received massive critical acclaim and numerous awards during its run in the West End.

The local production of Yes, Prime Minister is being staged by comedy specialists Mellow Drama at the Manoel Theatre and stars Alan Montanaro as the Prime Minister alongside Jo Caruana, John Montanaro, Colin Fitz, Steve Casaletto and Barry Calvert.

The story revolves around Prime Minister Jim Hacker who is heading up the coalition government and staring disaster in the face. The country is on the brink of economic meltdown and there is just one grain of hope – a morally dubious deal with the Foreign Minister of Kumranistan.

But great institutions have a way of riding punches and bouncing back unscathed – will it prove so for the PM and his team of close advisors?

“What makes this such a great play is that this is not a simple rehash of the old television series but a brand new installment written specifically for the stage and featuring totally up-to-date content,” director James Calvert said.

“This version of Yes, Prime Minister includes everything from the British coalition government to the Euro crisis and the Greek debt implosion. The script is actually being constantly updated by the authors.”

London critics have heaped praise on the production with the Daily Telegraph saying “A wonderful show. A smash-hit if I ever saw one!” the Daily Mail billing it as a “four-star evening. A hit!” and the Daily Express describing it as a “side-splitting foray into the comedy of political drama and intrigue!”

Mellow Drama is the first theatrical company outside the UK to be awarded the rights to produce Yes, Prime Minister.

The play will run for two weekends: February 10-12 and 17-19. Tickets priced between €12 and €20 are now on sale from the Manoel Theatre box office on 2124 6389 or through their website www.teatrumanoel.com.mt

All shows start at 8pm and run for approximately two hours. Due to the adult content of the play it has been rated as appropriate for people 16 or older.
